Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is planning to pay a tribute to his homeland by making a Punjabi film on the traditional sports of the state.

The 43-year-old actor made the announcement here at the premiere of his new film Patiala House with co-star Anushka Sharma at his side.

Accompanied by Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, as Kumar reached the SRS Theater where the screening was held, a sea of humanity seemed to gather, choking every route to the theatre. Overwhelmed by the grand reception, Bollywood’s original ‘khiladi’ said that even though he has acted in more than 125 films but this one was the closest to his heart.

He said that irrespective of the commercial success of Patiala House, this was his best film of his life.

Born and brought up in Amritsar, Kumar said that whichever corner of the globe he goes to, Punjabis welcome him with open arms.

Thanking Badal for offering to organize the premiere of his film in Patiala, Akshay said that though he received offers from New York, London, Canada, Mumbai, New Delhi and Chandigarh for hosting the premier show, he preferred this princely city.

He said that he was greatly thankful to Punjab deputy chief minister for organising such a grand show in three days notice, adding that it was like a “homecoming” for him.

Speaking on the occasion, leading lady Anushka said that her debut film Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, based on Punjabi culture, was a grand success and hoped that Patiala House would also be loved by people all over.

Badal said that it was matter of great pride for every Punjabi that Kumar was acting as the ambassador for Punjabi culture through his home production besides giving a fillip to sports as well.
