Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle made her official entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for her efforts in the Indian film industry.
Bhosle scored the nod for having the most studio recordings (singles) as an artiste. “I am honoured after receiving this award,” she says.
This 78-year-old highly regarded playback singer has recorded more than 11,000 solos, duets and chorus-backed songs in over 20 Indian languages.
Asha, The singer, who has been reigning the marquee of playback singing in the Indian film industry since 1947, reveals that none of the female voices currently dominating the music industry soothe her ears after listening to her sister Lata Mangeskar’s songs.
“After listening to didi (older sister) singing, I don’t like the voice of any other female singers,” she says adding, “Though, among the male singers, I love listening to Shaan and Sukhwinder.”
The melody queen has had a hallowed career, and is one of the most prolific talents in the industry, having lent her voice to around 1,332 films in different Indian languages.
The wife of late music composer RD Burman, with whom she has a number of hit collaborations, Bhosle is all praise for the present generation of music composers and is still ready to sing for films. “I will keep singing for wherever I am required,” says she.
