Not even the Big B! And the latest is his being the brand ambassador of Gujarat! But lets not go into this one…
What I am talking is, that one question that is unanswered and will remain so is, celebrities make controversies or controversies make celebrities???
But who cares?? Don’t we enjoy these controversies?? Yes we do! So, let us all have the ear for these controversies.. Don’t you agree with me that, they add SPICES in our KHICHADI life!!

Ravana, this year’s most awaited movie finally make it to cinemas this Friday and it  managed to earn mixed response from the audience. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan reunite to star alongside Tamil superstar Vikram.  Mani this time has written a story line culminating the characters of Robin Hood,  Veerappan and of course our very own Ramayana. The film’s characters have strong shades of grey where the hero is not necessarily a good man and the villain, a bad man.  Director Mani Ratnam is back with undoubtedly his most ambitious project ever, and with Raavan he triumphs. Raavan movie rating has been good overall, though movie review has been varying among viewers.

Academy Award Winner A R Rahman delivers a haunting soundtrack, with lyrics of Gulzar. The picturisation of ‘Beera Beera’ combines Bollywood funk and boy band moves with tribal dance and demonic images.

As I said earlier the Raavan movie earned mixed response from the audience. First to tell you about the weaknesses that it suffered. The story written by Mani had many glitches, though he managed to present a modern adaptation of epic Ramayana with a twist in characters, still it had lot to be asked.

The promos of Raavan may set you thinking about some of the great action sequences in the film but sadly there weren’t any worth talking about. The scenes between Ash and Abhi in the jungle are repeated most of the time. One more thing that the film seriously suffered was the bad dialogue writing. I am amazed how a Mani Ratnam movie can suffer on such a ground. The dialogues were not at all impressive and could not lend any depth to the characters. But all thanks to the beautiful camera handling by Santosh Sivan and V Manikanandan.  The jungle never has looked so beautiful before in any other Indian movie like the way it looked in Raavan. Santosh has nicely used rain, water and natural beauty of woods to give the audience a much needed freshness.

With a running time of just 130 minutes, the film is significantly shorter than most Indian cinema. The interval arrives before you know it, although certain scenes in the final reels fail to maintain the earlier momentum. Since the advent of Indian cinema, the mythological genre has been seen on screen.

Overall, you can watch Raavan but don’t expect high. If you do not expect too high from the film, you will not return disappointed. Watch it for its cinematography and amazing work from Abhishek Bachchan who has delivered very good role of character Raavan.

Storyline:

Debutant director Rensil D’Silva’s ability to maintain the intense graph of Kurbaan is the biggest highlight of this film.

Avantika played by Kareena comes to Delhi from USA. In Delhi she meets with Ehsaan played by Saif Ali Khan who is a lecturer of Islamic Studies in Delhi University. Avantika also starts working as a professor of Psychology in Delhi University.

They move to US after getting married in Delhi. But later Kareena Kapoor aka Avantika comes to know that Ehsaan was playing a game with her and he is a terrorist and married her to hide his identity from the world. Ehsaan kept her inside the house. Soon Avantika comes to know about the plans of Ehsaan to hijack an airplane……

After an arresting start, the film gets a little shaky. Post interval the pace slackens and the tension between the lead characters becomes monotonous. In the second hour you often find yourself wanting some more action to give some respite from the talk heaviness. The writers run out of surprises in this part of thefilm. Given its grim plot, two hours and forty minutes is way too long for an average cinegoer. A taut, complex film starts culminating into a routine FBI chase. Things however pick up in a lengthy but well-executed climax shot on a subway station.

The movie seems to be any other movie but it has something that will keep you get engaged till the last moment. Salim-Sulaiman and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have given again their best. Some songs comes up really melodious. Saif has done a very good job. Kareena looks ok. Kareena backless/topless scene just looks in the poster outside of the theater. But in the movie there is nothing too much to watch about the Kareena’s hot scene. The movie’s cost was around 50 crores and that will come back in the producer’s hands easily. No doubt in that. Even the movie is a directorial debut for Rensil D’Silva, he has done very nice job. Surely Karan Johar shared his experiences with him that also looks on screen. The movie is a mixture of love and terrorism.

Kurbaan works in most parts because the director keeps the cinematic coincidences and liberties to the minimum. And wherever you do sense a leap of faith it is not jarring. Secondly, despite knowing how the characters will react, Rensil manages to shock you with his scenes. Note the moment where Saif reveals his identity. You know what it is all about, yet it hits you hard. Rensil doesn’t digress from his core plot right up to the climax – which might meet with mixed reactions.

However it is Vivek Oberoi who delivers a spontaneous performance. His character gives the film some much-needed energy. Vivek’s part has more range than the lead pair’s. Dia Mirza and Nauheed Cyrusi get the most significant guest appearances of their lives. Om Puri and Kirron Kher are clichéd but deliver some brilliant dialogues.

Salim-Suleiman’s haunting tunes add to the stark premise of the film – especially Ali Maula. Technically the production values are top-notch even though cleverly inspired by Hollywood. Inconsistencies aside, Kurbaan is undoubtedly among the most watchable films of the season.

Kurbaan could have been a tighter and perhaps slightly more engrossing film. But considering it is the director’s maiden effort – full marks to Rensil D’Silva. He does well to stay away from any frothy elements at the cost of sacrificing the mass entertainment value. It’s mostly a gripping thriller with several shock moments.

I guess Bollywood has completely sworn to walk onto the Hollywood path…

First and the foremost is Twinkle khanna!! Remember the unbuttoning act of Akshay Kumar?? This publicity earned Akshay a lot money.. But not only Akshay, even Twinkle received a lot of criticism for publically unbuttoning her husband!!

Another example is of the most sweetest couple of our Industry, Sussane- Hrithik Roshan..

Hrithik and papa Rakesh Roshan are busy promoting their upcoming flick, “Kites”…. The Hrithik- Barbara affair is a part of this promotion… (A strategy that works amazingly sometimes for giving any movie a hype before its release.. Even their on-screen kiss has been given a lot of importance).. And the best part of this is that Sussane has been a support system and a partner in crime of this entire publicity gimmick…

Infact Shiney Ahuja’s wife also came up for shiney’s rescue after he was convicted in the rape case..

Few months back Arbaz Khan- Mallika Arora, came in the news for getting divorced… But later it proved to be publicity ka chakkar, which was for some product… And they had to face a lot of criticism from their fans for it….

I am sure there are more such instances… And why not?? Good or Bad, publicity is publicity!!! And when done for you husband, one does not require any other PRO..

Remember the song, “Nayak nahi khalnayak hoon main!!” Nope I am not talking about Sanjay Dutt, another actor, who has left the entire film industry numb and speechless.

Yes you gussed it right! Shiney Ahuja has been accused of raping his maid…

Though, many people, including Shiney’s wife and neighbors have come out for his rescue. But if the charges on Shiney are proved correct, then once upon a time tagged as an ‘Intense actor’ would be now tagged as a rapist.

Well this kind of an acquisition on Shiney is definitely the biggest, but not the first.

Shiney started his career in 2006, with “Hazaaron Kwahishen Aisi” and since then he has been in news for different bad reason. Especially for not getting along very well with his female co-stars. You name it and you have it… Kangana Ranaut, Esha Deol and even our Preeti Zinta.

The case is still under investigation and the actor is waiting for the decision, behind the bars.

Now, it is hard to guess that is it controversies that make our hindi film industry/stars or is it our film industry/ stars that make controversies ?????

Five months of the year 2009 have passed… June has started, and our hindi film industry has not seen the face of a single big, blockbuster, hit film…. What a tragedy!!

One of the main reasons for this has been, the face off between the multiplex owners and the producers of the industry, (it has now ended)…

Another reason is that the kind of films released during these months, were not able to attract the audiences to the theaters… Most of them were small budget movies with no star power associated with them…

Movies like, “Aaloo Chat’, “Ek- the power of one”, “Straight”, “Gulaal”, “Dhoondte Reh Jaoge”, “Siddharth- The Prisoner”, have been like, bombs with no spark, at the box office window.

Even the films with considerably good budget and star value, have failed badly on the box office…. Like, “Billu” and “Delhi-6″..

Infact even Akshay Kumar has proved a disaster this year with movies like, “Chandani Chowk To China” and “8*10 Tasveer”…

The few movies that attracted the classes and not the masses and got critically acclaimed were, ‘Dev-D”, “Luck By Chance”, etc…

The only movie, that has managed to snatch away all the attention amidst all these flops has been, “Slumdog Millionaire”, (Made by a firang, Dany Boyle)…

So this year has not been very good for the film industy, till now… But there are rays of hope shinning, in the remaining year of 2009…

The list of the unreleased movies, those might release this year, is no less than a plates of tempting dishes, for the movie buffs…

“Kambakth Ishq”, “What’s your Rashee?”, “New York”, “Kaminay”, “Kites”, “London Dreams”, “My name is Khan” and “Wanted Dead Or Alive” are the few to name… “3 Idiotd”, “Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani”..

Lets hop that the wait for the good films is soon going to be over…

Yes you heard it right.. Aamir Khan is all set to become a father for the third time, after having a marital bliss of 4 years, with his second wife Kiran Rao…

The news is out , though Amir wanted it to be confidential…  Kiran is 3 months pregnant!!

It was thrilling to see Salman in a, chlormint “Dubara Mat Puchna“, ad alongwith Sohail Khan... A kiddy ad, Salman and Sohail’s duo has made the ad interesting…

Seems Salman has realized his social responsibilities and has now decided to breakaway from his past…

On the coming episode of Dus Ka Dum, you will see Salman, defending Rakhie Sawant and telling Mika, (he had bad memories associated with Rakhie), that Rakhie is a nice girl and has worked really hard to come up on the level, where she is right now… And that he has tremendour respect for her…

Amidst the speculations of Salman- Katrina breakup, (though both of them have been denying it), and the not so good condition of Salman’s dream project, “Veer“, I hope Dus Ka Dum and the chlormint ad might prove as a freshner in his life..

1. Pyasa- (If you wanna see some serious cinema,hen Guru Dutt movies are something you should go for… Pyasa is a movie about an unsuccessfull and struggling poet, who wants his poems to get published, obviously all in vein. He falls in love with a prostitute, Wahida Rehman, that is. Later he is mistaken to be dead. His poems now get published by a lalchi publisher, in order to attain all the fame and money, single handedly. The story ends with Vijay, (Guru Dutt) denouncing all the fame and recognition..) Remember the song, “Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaye toh kya hai”.

2. Guide- (An amazing movie by Vijay Anand, starring Dev Anand as Guide… The movie embarks the transformation of a bad man into a spiritual human being.. The songs and dances by Wahida Rehman are a delight to watch.. The last scene of the movie is powerful.. )

3. Sadma- (The only movie in which Sri Devi has acted, according to me… one of those movies which do not have happy endings.. But deserved to be watched atleast opnce in a life time…)

4. Dil Wale Dulhania Le Jayenge- (An ever green movie, that looks new every time you watch it.. If you are in love then learn how you can convience your anti- love parents.. Great music! Awesome acting by amrish puri! And great sync between each and every character of the movie… I know, there is no need to say much about the film.. )

5. Muskurahat - ( I bet not many of you have seen the movie or even heard about it… Thats a film by Priyadarshan.. if you get to watch it then i would call it your good luck.. I am from the few lucky ones who have got a chance to see the movie.. Again an amazing performance by Amrish Puri, as Former Justice Gopichand Verma… Watch the movie for him…
